BEST COMMISSARY AWARDS: DeCA honors its top stores for FY 2022 based on patron satisfaction, accountability, sales and more
In a virtual ceremony June 6, the Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) announced the fiscal year 2022 Best Commissary Awards at DeCA headquarters. Awards are given in five categories determined by store location and size. They are named in honor of government officials who protected the commissary benefit and championed quality-of-life issues for the military and their families.

This year’s Feds Feed Families campaign runs from June 26 through Sept. 29, and is the fourth year the Department of Defense has designated the Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) to lead its effort. “We’re excited to launch this year’s campaign,” said Doug Nomura, chief of DeCA’s Logistics and Sustainment Division. “We are fortunate to receive great support across the Department of Defense and from our commissary shoppers.”
156 YEARS AND COUNTING: Military commissaries evolve to become vital part of DOD’s initiative to improve economic security
When the modern-day commissary benefit began on July 1, 1867, it expanded shopping privileges at commissary subsistence stores to enlisted men. The benefit had previously only been available for officers since 1825.
Fast forward 156 years and the commissary benefit has indeed evolved.
