The Defense Commissary Agency is voluntarily recalling specific lots of Freedom’s Choice Shredded Mozzarella Cheese because they may be contaminated with extraneous materials, according to a recall notice from the Defense Commissary Agency’s food safety office sent July 11.

ProBar LLC is voluntarily recalling specific flavors and lots of its Meal bars because they may contain undeclared milk and soy allergens, according to a Department of Defense All Food and Drug Activity message sent July 11.

Thanks to the Scholarships for Military Children program, 500 students from military families were each awarded a $2000 scholarship grant for the upcoming 2019-2020 school year.

“To put together a summer picnic basket that will get the job done but won’t break the bank, don’t go any further than your local commissary,” said Tracie Russ, the Defense Commissary Agency’s director of sales. “You can put together a delicious, economical, al fresco meal with almost no effort at all. Stateside commissaries are again serving as collection points for the Feds Feed Families campaign for 2019, which began June 26, and continues through Aug. 9 at participating military installations.

On July 1 the Defense Commissary Agency celebrates the 152nd anniversary of the commissary benefit, marking it as the oldest U.S. military resale program.
