DeCA selects Davis next agency deputy director, COO
The Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) announced that Karen M. Davis has been selected to be the agency’s new deputy director and chief operating officer. Her selection is effective Oct. 20. Davis fills the position previously held by Michael Dowling, who retired from government service in April of 2023. She was selected for the Senior Executive Service (SES) in 2014.

On Oct. 13, the Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) salutes the U.S. Navy on the 249th anniversary of its establishment by the Continental Congress in 1775. “We salute the Navy’s anniversary, and we want all our sailors – active duty, reservists, retirees and their family members, as well as disabled veterans and their caregivers – to know we celebrate them every day by delivering the commissary benefit they’ve earned,” said Navy Command Master Chief Mario Rivers, senior enlisted advisor to the DeCA director. “We endeavor to provide the highest quality product at the lowest price possible to help our eligible patrons boost their financial and food security with at least 25 percent savings on their groceries.”

FIGHTING FOOD INSECURITY: DOD, DeCA set new records in 2024 in national Feds Feed Families donation campaign
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) annual Feds Feed Families campaign, held this year from June 24 through Sept. 30, ended with more than 12 million pounds of goods donated to food banks across the nation, marking an increase of more than 2 million pounds over 2023’s total. This is the fifth year that the Department of Defense (DOD) has designated the Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) as its overall campaign leader.
