233 YEARS OF SERVICE: On Aug. 4, commissaries join nation in saluting Coast Guard on its anniversary
The Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) is proud to observe the 233rd birthday of the U.S. Coast Guard on Aug. 4. “We salute the Coast Guard’s 233 years of service by delivering their commissary benefit,” said Marine Sgt. Maj. Michael R. Saucedo, senior enlisted advisor to the DeCA director. “And we encourage them to use their benefit to boost their financial and food security with at least 25 percent savings on their purchases.”

Davis selected DeCA’s chief financial officer
Stephan T. Davis, former budget officer for the Defense Commissary Agency, has been named the agency’s chief financial officer. He succeeds Cynthia L. Morgan, who is retiring Dec. 31.

When Cynthia Morgan took over as the Defense Commissary Agency’s chief financial officer (CFO) in 2018, she walked into a growing tradition of unmodified opinions reflecting DeCA’s ability to efficiently manage its appropriations. As she prepares to retire after more than 35 years of government service, Morgan said she is proud the agency continues to emphasize its responsibility to be good stewards of taxpayer funds.
NEW SEASON OPENS: Scholarships for Military Children applications available for 2024 - 2025 academic year
Applications have now opened for Fisher House Foundation’s Scholarships for Military Children program for academic year 2024 – 2025. The program, entering its 24th year, recognizes the contributions of military families to the readiness of America’s fighting force and celebrates the commissary’s role in enhancing military quality of life. Fisher House Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping service members, veterans and their families, administers the program.

On Dec. 20, 2019, Congress established the U.S. Space Force within the Department of the Air Force.
