On Dec. 13, 1636, the Massachusetts Colony created an organized militia that would eventually become today’s National Guard. “We want our customers in the Guard to know we celebrate them every day by delivering the commissary benefit they’ve earned,” said Marine Corps Sgt.Maj. Chandra Ramey has been named the Defense Commissary Agency’s general counsel effective Nov. 29.

Ramey, previously principal deputy general counsel since August 2018, fills a position left vacant April 11 when Ralph J. Tremaglio III accepted a position as general counsel for the Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA). Ramey had been serving as acting general counsel since Tremaglio’s departure.

Applications are now open for the Scholarships for Military Children Program for academic year 2022 – 2023. The program, now entering its 22nd year, recognizes the contributions of military families to the readiness of the fighting force and celebrates the commissary’s role in enhancing military quality of life. It’s administered by Fisher House Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping service members, veterans and their families.

On Dec. 20, 2019, Congress established the U.S. Space Force within the Department of the Air Force.
