During Food Safety Education Month in September, the Defense Commissary Agency joins the Centers for Disease Control, the U.S. Department of Agriculture-Food Safety Inspection Service, the Department of Health and Human Services and other organizations in reinforcing foodborne illness awareness and prevention.

School is back and so are commissary sidewalk sales. Throughout September, stateside commissary patrons can stock up on their favorite items at significant savings during these Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) events.

Since its founding in late 2019, the military resale joint buying alliance has saved the military community more than $75 million. The joint buying power of the military exchanges and commissary enables these organizations to offer lower prices and negotiate vendor markdowns on the products they sell.

Select commissaries worldwide are planning recognition events to honor veterans, surviving spouses and their families for Vietnam War Veterans Day on March 29.

National Vietnam War Veterans Day on March 29 honors Vietnam War era veterans and their families, thanking them for their service and sacrifice during the conflict that lasted more than two decades.

“Commissaries are proud to honor our youngest heroes during April, the Month of the Military Child,” said Marine Sgt. Maj. Michael R. Saucedo, the senior enlisted advisor to the Defense Commissary Agency director. “Whether it’s special drawing contests, other events or exclusive savings on nutritious products to help their development, we are here for our military children.”

The Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) Sales Flyer for March 27 – April 9 offers extra savings for service members, their families as well as the youngest members of the household in honor of the Month of the Military Child.

Knowledge is power, and the Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) is on a mission to boost the economic security of every eligible patron with information about their commissary benefit. That outreach includes the millions of disabled veterans, certified caregivers, Purple Heart recipients and former prisoners of war who were granted commissary, exchange and MWR retail shopping privileges on Jan. 1, 2020, under the Purple Heart and Disabled Veterans Equal Access Act of 2018.

Craig R. Smith, former director of IT corporate support for the Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA), has been named director of human resources for the Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) effective March 12.

Michael M. Pfister, former chief of promotions in the Defense Commissary Agency’s Sales Directorate, has been named director of the agency’s Central Area effective March 26.
