Tops issues recall of fresh peeled garlic because of heath concern
Tops Friendly Markets is recalling all codes of Christopher Ranch Peeled Garlic and Garland Peeled Garlic because the products have the potential to be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum due to the product being kept at insufficient temperatures, according to a recall notice from the Defense Commissary Agency’s (DeCA) food safety office sent April 2.
Botulism, a potentially fatal form of food poisoning, can cause the following symptoms: general weakness, dizziness, double-vision and trouble with speaking or swallowing, difficulty in breathing, abdominal distension and constipation may also be common symptoms.
The DeCA Health and Safety Directorate has publicized this recall to all its stores. Whenever a commissary has recalled or withdrawn products in its inventory, they are immediately removed from store shelves.
The following product is affected by this recall:
- Christopher Ranch Peeled Garlic, 6 ounces packed in plastic bags: UPC 74574-10852, all product code dates.
There are no known illnesses to date.
This issue was discovered during a routine store inspection where it was observed that the recalled product was not held at sufficient temperatures to control the hazard.
Customers should return this product to the commissary of purchase for a full refund.
