DeCA recalls Ukrop’s Homestyle Foods due to possible foreign object in select stores in the East

DeCA is recalling six Ukrop’s Homestyle Foods items due to the potential presence of a foreign object in select East Area stores, according to an internal recall notice from the Defense Commissary Agency’s (DeCA) food safety office sent July 30.

This recall only affects commissaries at Fort Belvoir, Fort Lee, Fort Myer and Quantico, all in Virginia.

DeCA has publicized this recall to all its stores, said Richard Stith, Chief, Public Health Division, DeCA headquarters. Whenever a commissary has recalled or withdrawn products in its inventory, they are immediately removed from store shelves.

The following products are affected by this recall:

• Ukrops Baked Spaghetti: UPC: 72251528211, product size: 14.8 ounce, best-by date range: July 8 - Aug. 5.

• Ukrops Bread Pudding with Vanilla Sauce: UPC: 72251528044, product size: 13.8 ounce, best-by date range: July 7 - Aug. 3. 

• Ukrops Chicken Cobbler: UPC: 72251528457, product size: 11.6 ounce, best-by date range: July 8 – Aug. 5.

During a routine review, a small sliver of aluminum was discovered in the baking pan used to prepare six of its products. A similar metal fragment was also identified in a Chicken Cobbler product yesterday.

No other products other than those listed on the chart below are impacted by this recall. No injuries have been reported in connection with this recall. 

Customers should return the product to the commissary of purchase for a full refund.
